Two weeks ago, this was the view out our window:
Tom turkey struts his stuff for the ladies one early morning.
Last week, we finally started seeing the beginning of green grass.
Today... holy cow, someone get out the lawn mower! Just be careful, it's awful soft under that green lush!
The same is true for all the animals.... here's a peek at my first batch of layers:
All feathered out and moved into the coop!
This is one of our two Turkens or Naked Neck Chickens, they are just getting uglier.
Very shy Turken... wonder why??
We determined this last week that our Hereford cow was not bred, as we had hoped, so after much deliberation it was decided to send her for beef now. This morning Hubby & I got up early and got her loaded into the trailer and took her in. Don't cry, she was a royal pain in the backside. I even asked the butcher if I could stick around and pull the trigger! (No, I didn't get to... bummer.) Now all I can think about is fresh beef for my nearly empty freezer. Even the rest of the cows seem quieter and more relaxed this afternoon. I believe the whole farm breathed a sigh of relief when dear ol' Abby left the barnyard this morning!
Finally, we are loving our barn!!
We put the front doors on this week. We also built the fourth pen and extended the fencing over to the back of the barn so that the cows now have access to it. Once things dry up a little more, we can start painting! Any guesses to the color? Guess you will just have to stop back by to check it out! ;)
Going out on a limb and linking up to Farm Friend Friday at Verde Farm this week. Check it out!! We love reading other farmer blogs, hope you do too!

Here in Ohio we have already mowed several times. Although our temperatures keep going from the 50's to the 70's. It is truly amazing though how fast spring comes in. We keep track of the birds as they come back and the flowers, wild mushrooms, and get ready to start planting gardens!!
Love everything you guys are doing. The BARN looks great.....I have Barn Envy....glad I have one but we will see how many more years it will stay standing ;) Dear Ol Abby sounds like good eats!
We sprung green last week so we're not too far off from each other in seasons. Great barn!! Did you come up with the design on your own? Looks like the old time barns we have around here. We have one naked neck. You might be able to see her in one of my blog pictures. She might be ugly but she is a good egg layer.
Have a great weekend
God bless
Do I see a Barred Rock among your chickens? We had them for our first batch...liked their personalities. But those poor turkens...do they get picked on by the others?! :)
Great barn!
Dina - We have seen a few folks out mowing already, but our land is too wet right now. We enjoyed our first 70 degree day yesterday. Almost ready to start some gardening here.
Kim - Thanks! You guys have inspired us a lot over this past year. We are so thankful for like-minded friends to gain ideas from!
Mary - Thanks. Yes, we did "design" the barn ourselves. Hubby is quite clever in that department. We both wanted an "old" barn look. I'm so pleased to hear that the naked necks are good layers, that might help get us past their ugliness. ;)
Alica - Yes, we have 3 barred rocks in the mix. They do seem to be the more sociable ones. The Turkens do pretty well for themselves. I have one who is a little bolder, but the one pictured above tends to be the one hiding out behind the scenes. We are watching her closely for any picking.
Patrice - Thanks so much! We love it. :)
That barn is amazing! That's some pretty dramatic change in the last couple of weeks.
Teresa
Thanks so much Teresa! It really has been dramatic and without my camera, I think I probably wouldn't have noticed just how quickly it was changing. Thanks for visiting. :)
I love your barn and that Turken is sure unique looking! I'm in southeastern Massachusetts!
happy day!
Marcia - Thanks for visiting a fellow New Englander!
